Salad Garden - in a bucket!

Hi everyone.  I'm excited to share this project with you on a Sunday!

We are HUGE salad eaters, and I'm hoping that this idea will pay off and extend our growing season a bit longer than normal -- whatever that is for Oklahoma this year!

I purchased a galvanized 5 gallon bucket last year and while I've used it for some other purposes, it now has an extended use plan in place.  I'm really liking it's new purpose and I'm sure it will be fun to clip, cut and pick from this mini-sized container garden in the near future! 

To decorate the bucket, I created a hot glue freehand stencil/stamp.  I really like the freedom you have with creating one.  Just be sure you use a surface that will release the glue once it's cooled.  A teflon baking mat or crafting mat might be perfect!  I used the back of an old warped and no longer used cutting mat for a die cutting machine.  There were a few spots where the glue didn't release as easily as I'd hoped, but it did work. You might notice that little spot of tape on the stencil in the lower portion of the picture.  That was where the stencil tore just a little while I tried to get it off the mat.

Now the fun part starts!  I grabbed my eBrush and the new siphon adapter;  some ink I added some alcohol to  and started spraying.  I just kept things to a pretty simple palette of 3 -4 colors and sprayed.  Gotta love how it turned out! 

I made a few plant pokes - with some oven bake clay -- They're stamped and sprayed with some Pearl Ex using the siphon adapter  and the eBrush;  I used some hardware punch dies for the lettering dipped in Staz-On black ink.  Be sure to make the hole for your pick -- I used a craft stick for mine.  Bake as directed.  Add any additional embellishments and seal for outdoor use if desired. Look closely at the picture below and you'll see them.

Plant your salad as desired -- we have cucumbers which will be trellised, leaf lettuce, spinach, a few carrots and radishes planted right now in this bucket.  Looks like we're off to a fairly good start.  I have back up seeds sprouting and we should be able to sustain the 'garden' into the hottest of weather without everything going to seed because this bucket can be moved and can be replanted with seedlings as needed!

it's a purple kind of day..

for this week's eBrush design team project, I decided to make some flowers to go along with an old song from my youth. 

For this project you'll need:
eBrush and SN adapter
Markers (Spectrum Noir - LG2, DG2, DG3, Blender, HB2, HB3, TB7)
Large Balled Stylus
Glue
Yellow Glitter
Pansy SVG File (SVGCuts.com)
digital cutting machine and software
Digital paper ( Vintage Pansies)
8 x 10 canvas
Collage Pauge (glossy)
ModPodge (glossy)
White cardstock
White copy paper
Printer

Cut the pansy file at the size it imports.  For this project I cut three flowers and three leaves in white cardstock. Set aside.  The picture below is just the flower parts.

I used the ebrush and markers to color my flowers.  You can add a bit more interest by using the blender marker and flick in a few extra veins.

Add a few details.  Then using the stylus, create a little more dimension. 

 

Put the flowers together -- add a small drop of glue in the center of the flower and liberally add some glitter and let dry. Remove the excess.  Color the leaves as desired and add some dimension using the stylus.  Add a thin coat of Modge Podge to the flower and the leaves. Glue the leaves to the back of the flower. 

Using an editing program, create the document for your background.  I used Paint 2 (MAC) and imported the digital paper and then added the wording for this particular canvas,
Little purple pansies touched with yellow gold,
Growing in one corner of the garden old,
We are very tiny, but must try, try, try,
Just one spot to gladden, you and I.

In whatever corner we may chance to grow,
Whether cold or warm the wind may ever blow,
Dark the day, or sunny, we must try, try, try
Just one spot to gladden, you and I.

This was a song I used to sing as a child in our children's church group. and pansies are among my favorite flowers for Spring and Fall color.

Print and tear the edges of the printed paper.  Using the collage pauge, apply the paper to the canvas as directed by the manufacturer.  Let dry.
Arrange and glue the flowers to the canvas.  Add some additional embellishments as desired.

There's no place like "gnome"

I fell in love with these stamps as soon as I saw them.  And I knew exactly what I wanted to do when I saw the tabs!

1/8 in wide cream ribbon
Ink
Spectrum Noir marker EB6
eBrush
Corrugated cardboard (scrap)
white acrylic paint
foam brush
Pink & Main stamps
glue
glue dots
pop dots
hardware
lace

Cut card front piece to 4.25 x 5.50.  Ink the edges of this piece with the ebrush and marker; set aside. 

Tear off the front of the corrugated cardboard. Shape like a gate.   Lightly paint the front. Let dry.

Spray the edges with marker.  Add the hardware. 

Wrap the lace around the bottom of the card front and secure.  Glue the "gate" to the card front.

Stamp 3 tabs.  I stamped on the back of the papers I wanted to use and hand cut.  Ink the edges (again, I used the eBrush)  Using a piercing tool, pierce a 2 holes in each tab and thread the ribbon through.  Secure the ribbon to the card front.  Make sure there's a little ease to allow some pop up dots underneath each tab. 

Add the saying/sentiment to the front using a pop dot. 

Secure the card front to the card base. 

Personalize as desired!

never enough thank you cards

Last week after going through my stash, I discovered I didn't have enough thank you notes to get me through the rest of the month!  So I turned to my trusty eclips,  eCal and pen tool and created an easy card front.  Thanks to Pinterest for the inpsiration once again! 

Open eCal.  Go to the shapes library and drag and drop a horizontal rectangle on the mat.  Size as needed.  I sized mine to 5" W x 3.75" H.  Click on the Text tool and choose your font.  I used Samantha Upright for the YOU using all lower case.  I ungrouped the text image and removed the inner part of the O and replaced it with a heart resized to fit in the spot. Group and make sure that the letters are welded. 

Choose the Text tool again.  Type in your additional words... I chose "are absolutely AMAZING" for the rest of the sentiment.  Make sure that you set each word as Draw (pen) in the tools section on the right hand panel.  Size as needed and place on the rectangle as desired.  Using the Cutter tab on the tool bar, check Preview to make sure what part of your image is going to cut and which will be done using the pen.  If you like what you see, you can fill the page with additional images as desired.  I cut four at a time using an 8.5 x 11 inch piece of cardstock.

To finish the card, I picked up a stencil and using the ebrush stenciled the leaf and vine using an old Stampin' Up marker and a matching ink pad to ink in a little additional background.  Frame this with a color of your choice and place on your cardbase.

Ruffled Tulip Stencil

Mini Pallet with Robin

There are times when I wish I had a pallet or two hanging around this place... however, in this case, some popsicle sticks will suffice.

You'll need:

Craft sticks
markers (Bic Mark-its)stamps (assorted)
inks (assorted)
ebrush
sandpaper (extra fine)
Stencil (Judith Kim for Craftwell)
electronic cutting machine and software

I used some painter's tape to line up the sticks.  One they are secure, get your markers and spray a little here and there to create a little color for your background.

At this point, I created a mask for the focal image, the Robin and using some repositionable glue on the back placed it on the mini pallet.  I inked up a few stamps and began stamping a collage background. 

Once you've got your background stamped, remove the mask -- and save it for another project.  Now, you can stencil the robin.  3 easy steps thanks to Judith's wonderful design.  Then to soften the colors just a bit... I sanded the front of the "pallet." 

I chose to display this mini pallet on a mini easel made from popsicle sticks. 

This is just a quick project and has lots of potential.  Mini quotes, more stencils, card fronts, etc.... Tell me what you think.

Sometimes we find ourselves separated by miles.... but with technology today.... the miles are often insignificant -- most often it's just a call, Skype or Facetime chat to catch up on things.

Pink & Main has provided everything needed to set up a friendly chat with family or friends!  Take a peek!

These "planner" stamps (soon to be released)  and Speech Patterns stamps were perfect to use for my pictograph!  Letters were cut using some old cuttlebug alpha dies.  Buttons, ribbon and metal were from my stash.  The speech bubble was cut using my electronic cutting machine with a file I purchased from Designs on Cloud 9 before they closed.  I used the eBrush to edge and splatter the paper --

Planning Ahead

I've been stamping and crafting for a very long time...more years than I care to think of.  However, I recently  discovered that I really needed a way to keep some things a bit more organized in a more visual way. Stamps to the rescue!   Pink & Main's soon to be released Planner Stamp sets were perfect to help me notch it up.  I'm very happy to have been chosen to highlight two stamp sets for them from their Planner series. 

My life revolves around 4 distinct areas, 1,2) home and family; 3) work; and 4) my business. I assigned each area a color  and then the beauty of the process unfolded - there's still some tweaking to do, but I have been testing it for a month and it's working very well. I wanted to share just a little of this coming's month's calendar...

So choose your planner (I chose to print mine using a calendar feature in one of my editing programs (Print Shop - PC version). The calendar version I chose allowed me some space on the left side to trim the pages.   I used the 3 in trimmed piece as an add on for some notes and space to enter additional information that may not have fit on the page.  My accountant has been after me too... so I made sure to add some additional information for credits and debits for tax purposes under this decorative piece I eBrushed using stencils.  :)

The left margin of the page also allows me space to document hours worked or note feelings or the weather.... I'm taking advantage of noting our very active Spring weather here and doing a little doodling which is very soothing to me. 

I used my comb binder to secure all my pages... you could use an 8 x 8 photo album too and just punch your pages to  secure them on the posts.  I like that I can add additional pages as needed including photos if the mood strikes! 

please accept my apologies for the dark images.... our weather has been terribly cloudy and sunshine has been a rarity in recent days -- no, make that weeks!

Are You Up to the Challenge?

Ruffled Tulip Stencil

 

Oh, I fell in love with this free stencil offered by CraftwellUSA -- designed by Judith Kim.  It's so pretty and easy to cut and color! 

I cut the stencil using my eclips2 with the eCal2 software.  Coloring was a breeze with some Bic Mark-it markers using the eBrush.  After the coloring was done, it was easy to mat and attach to the card base.

Cardstock from the scrapbox!  Gotta love being able to use up a little every now and then.  Stamp from Gina K Designs.
