This project was a test -- a successful one if I do say so myself!
I haven't done much in the way of dollmaking recently. But I did want to try my hand at creating something a little on the artsy side and something that was "stuffed." My last endeavor was a couple of years ago -- you can find that doll here.
First, I created a simple body using basic shapes and a series of commands in eCal2. The software is easy to use it was fun to do a little more exploring during the process.
Using the Sizzix Fabric Mat, you can place the fabric directly to the mat... no stabilizer! I was a little wary, but it worked. I had some medium weight muslin in my fabric stash and made the cuts. CLEAN and easy! Remove the "pieces" first and then the excess.
Stitch and stuff*! I wanted a boot, so I used some black acrylic and painted the boot. For a clean edge, add a piece of masking tape or painters tape at the desired height and paint the foot and toe. One coat did it for me.
The clothes are rectangles -- a trick I learned in my former doll-making days. The "apron" is a piece I crocheted about 25 years ago from a pattern in an old Better Homes Garden magazine. I'm excited to know that I have another similar piece in my stash along with some other lace I've crocheted and tatted.
Fabric is from an old Kaufmann fabric bolt in my stash. Ribbons from stash as is the nubby yarn for the hair.
*You can add the facial features before you stuff the body or afterwards. I generally add the hair after dressing the first time to have a little better idea of what I would like the finished doll to look like.
The hair was made with some stuff in my stash: "loopie" it's a little difficult to find right now, but I did find some on Amazon.com
I'm looking forward to doing a few more cuts using the eclips and fabric! Are you ready to take the leap? Let's see, teddy bears, bunnies, birds, Halloween, Christmas.... oh, I see there's lots of potential for some future gifting! Hope you are setting aside some creative time each week! Happy Crafting!
