2023 5 Tags of Spring - Day 3

Fun and lots of paper shapes create this fun tag for day 3.  The chocolate bunny is from Simply Crafty SVGs.  It's resized to fit on this mini tag that measures about 1.5 inches wide by 2.5 inches in height.  The flowers and leaves can be found in the SCAL library (SandraCreateinSpain folder)

It's also a good tag to use scraps with.  Add some ink, markers and a bit of glue, it's also a quick assemble.  The small hello is a print 2 cut.  Embossing the tag base adds a little more dimension and it was swiped with an ink pad in an antiquing color.

2023 5 Tags of Spring - Day 2

using some Pastel Digital paper from Nit Wit collections,  as well as the floral image used in the framed areas of this tag, this tag was a fun make.  I used the faux glassine technique used in the Valentine Tag project shared in this project. 

The Tag is made of a simple rectangle with equal sized and spaced circle cuts. The hanger element is created using a round rectangle and half circle and the Union command in SCAL 6 was used before adding a smaller circle for the twine to go through.  A little bit of antiqued cheesecloth and a word strip were used to finish off the tag.  

I really like the spring colors and hoping they brighten your day as well.  Spend a little time in your creative space this week!  Enjoy!

2023 5 Tags of Spring - Reveal

It's that time of year again!  I'm excited that the group wanted to do it again.  The rules are the same.... and it's just as fun to make new tags again this year.

This pinterest inspired tag was made using basic shapes from the SCAL Library.  It was fun to play with shapes and create the "eyelet" lace.  The pattern fill command is a great way to use digital paper -- all pieces for this tag were print 2 cut.  For deeper color, I used some markers for a more intense color on the flowers, stems and leaves. Markers were also used on the edges of each of the pieces.

More Halloween ....

The Frightful Flower from SimplyCrafty SVGs has joined this year's Halloween decor and I'm loving it!  It's definitely worth the time to cut, color, ink and assemble. Here's my version.

Isn't it fun?  The flower petals are hand painted -- well, I let the Watercolor ink from Poetique just run on some wet areas of the cardstock.  The edges are inked with distress ink for a little more definition.  Erase any pencil lines if you need to.  I used them to create a basic shape for the colored area of the petals.  

The face of our flower has just a little bit of inking and I did leave one of the pieces off (dripping blood).  

I added additional texture to the leaves using the backside of a craft knife... inked the entire leaf using Distress Inks and a blending tool.  

Three leaves were used for this version of the Frightful Flower.  The file does include 3 different leaf patterns for you to mix and match for your own special version of the file.

2022 Three Tags of Fall - Tag 1

It's time for the annual 3 Tags of Fall reveal.  After perusing Pinterest for a little bit, I found a couple of ideas that I thought would translate to paper very well.

Using the library in SCAL5, the elements for this tag were created.  The tag shape was made using the vertical rectangle, a half circle.  These two elements were "fused" using the union command once the half circle was elongated a bit and centered on the upper edge of the rectangle.  A small circle (.10) was added and centered in the upper portion of the half circle.  Front minus Back was used again.  If you want a reinforcement for the tag, you can create on in a different color or in the same paper you used to cut the tag.  

The tag frame was created using two vertical rectangles and the Back minus Front command.  some foam tape was added to the back of this piece and then attached to the tag base.  Edge all the pieces with some black ink.  

The flowers are created using stars from the library.  Place two stars together, shifting one star slightly to the left or right.  Use Union to create the petals.  Cut two petals for each flower. Color and ink the edges.  For the flower centers, cut a solid circle and a frame.  Emboss the flower center and using some off white ink, ink the edges of the circle frame.  Using a paper piercer, curl some of the petals.  Attach the flowers using some pop dots.  Add some twine for a little interest if desired.

on the artistry....Dimensional Sunflower for our HOME Sign

Our HOME sign gained another interchangeable dimensional element.  We've now got elements to take us through the month of August.   Hand-painted using watercolor markers, inks and brushes.  Love how it turned out.  

This 5-inch +dimensional sunflower was a perfect choice to add to our elements that decorate our foyer HOME sign for August. It's made from sketchbook paper which cut beautifully on the Skycut!   It was also fun to add color to for a one of a kind look as well.

Mix it Up Floral Wreath

 

This wreath was a little out of the box for me.  Who'd have thought the poinsettia file would work for this make?  I really like the outcome.  Three digital patterned papers are mixed up in each of the blooms. Floral files:  Poinsettia (leaves and ferns included) and Filler Flower are from Maison Gregoria.  Patterned papers from Creative Fabrica.  

Assembly of the flowers is very easy and quick.  Only three blooms were used for the wreath, but a total of 9 blooms were made using 3 12x12 sheets of photo paper.  And 2 sheets of green for the foilage.  The filler flowers were cut using one 8.5 x 11 sheet of white sketch paper.  

The wreath is currently hanging in our foyer...a matching wreath will be hanging on the door this weekend.  A great welcome to usher in the month of June!

Posy Pockets

These are so fun and easy to make....

I whipped a few out the last couple of days after designing the pocket in SCAL 5 Pro.  One piece for the main pocket and 2 bands to go around the top and the bottom of the pocket.  The skycut required about 1 1/2 minutes to do the cutting and scoring.  Once you have added the inking, texture and embellishment, assembly is accomplished with a seam in the back and gluing the bottom edge together.  Glue on the bands and add your hanger.

I used wire for the hanger, but ribbon, twine or other fibers would work well.  Fill the pocket with whatever your heart desires.  

Silk flowers were used in the 2 pockets above. 

For this pocket, we added Spanish Moss (green) and a paper air plant (file from Creative Fabrica).  The air plant was made using white sketch paper and colored using some spectrum noir markers and the Ebrush by CraftwellUSA.  

No watering needed.... EVER!  

Labels ( Label Creator Font found here) are printed with an inkjet printer on tissue paper.  Let dry for about 15 minutes before using Matte acrylic medium to apply to the pocket.  You can add some additional inking around the edges once the medium has dried to cover the edges of the label that was applied to the pocket.  

While some of the details can't be seen in the images, you can also use a scoreboard and score some lines from the back of the piece to make the pocket look like it has some ridges  like a can might have. Then use a ball stylus to emphasize the ridge a bit.   This is a great way to add some additional texture and interest to you piece.  You can also use an embossing folder to add interest. Lots of options to make each pocket unique and have your personal touch.

Spring Pitcher of flowers

Sandy's been a super support lately and I really appreciate her help with this project.  I'm sure at some point the pitcher design will be in her shop -- so stay tuned!

 

 

After perusing Pinterest a couple of weeks ago, I found an antique pitcher shape I really liked... however, there wasn't much in the design shops that I could find that looked close to the shape and would be simple to put together without using panels.  Sandy had already started something similar and she was gracious enough to send me a test version of a file.  

Needless to say, I fell in love with it and the shape was near spot on to what I had in mind.  This was created in Blender and Pepakura.  NitWit Collections Lilac Blossoms collection was a perfect fit for a Spring look.  I used SCAL5's option for print 2 cut and added the Lilac spray to the base of the pitcher cut.  

Assembly is easy for someone with a little experience.  The handle is 3 strips of paper glued together and shaped before the glue dries. It is attached to the back seam wall of the pitcher with some white washed brads I've had in my stash for years!  

Apply a coat of gloss Mod Podge to the outside for a nice finish and a little more strength.  If you plan to use live flowers, you do need to seal the interior of the pitcher BEFORE you assemble.  A tall pharmacy prescription bottle fits nicely inside and a 2 inch styro ball can be scrunched into the bottle to help with placement of your paper or silk floral pieces.  

Did you know that only one shop has a design for 3D lilac flowers? And that site requires a paid membership to access.  Budget being what it is, I looked for something that I could use - and found the Filler Flower at Maison Gregoria's Etsy shop to be a great fit.  Lots of tiny flowers, all cut on the Skycut using sketchbook paper.  Assembly is a bit tedious since each bloom is on it's own wire.  But it's worth the time and effort.  Once everything is wired and bundled into groups, it was time to use the eBrush for a little color.  Tombow markers in three shades of purple (623, 620, 636) were used to add some texture and depth to the shapes.  Even bundled the color went on fairly evenly.  PLUS:  it didn't take but a minute for the bundles to dry with the layered colors and you're ready to start putting your arrangement together.  

Add some additional greenery from the Poinsettia Wreath file (also from Maison Gregoria on CreativeFabrica.com) which I downsized a bit and also cut using the Skycut.  Wired and ready for use.  I used some chalk for a little extra color and used my exacto knife and a pair of craft tweezers to add the veins to the greenery.  While most of it is too tiny to see in the images, it was worth the time and effort to make it happen.  




The pitcher and floral arrangement stands about 8.5 inches tall and would be perfect for a side table, tablescape tray or open tiered tray or riser decor.

the first of May brings lots of cardmaking

I loved making multiples of this card, Congrats Graduation Card, designed by Sandy at Simply Crafty SVGs. 

I switched things up a bit... removing the diploma and adding another pop-up.  The stamp set is from Simon Says Stamp and the dies were also purchased.  The CELEBRATE was created in SCAL 5 Pro using a chunky font and a shadow layer.  

With Mother's Day just around the corner.... well, you know, I couldn't stop at just creating one card this go round.  I made two.  Both using stamps!  Coloring with markers and inks.  A little bit of fussy cutting and some layering.  

I love my stamp jig... makes for near perfect sentiment placement every time when stamping a stack!!  

The wildflower stamp set is Unknown.  The doodle flowers are from Fun Stampers Journey.  Sentiments are from Stampin' Up and Unknown source.  Cuttlebug (Dotted Swiss) embossing folder.  Colored Cardstock from Bazill.  

Now it's time to tackle all the birthday cards!  I think I counted 10 in the next 2 weeks!  Time to get a move on.
