a little more shaking going on...

Nope, not earthquake related though there have been a few very mild shakers  recorded, we just haven't felt them.  

I couldn't help but make a few more using the TP kit from Queen & Co.  AC cardstock for the bases and the black background.  An old Recollections stack from Michaels for the patterned paper.  

These are so easy to put together and one of the advantages of of using the precut foam is that you can make a few shakers in advance and have them at the ready when needed. I found my stash of clear seed beads to use as a filler for these shakers.  I'm hoping the recipients enjoy a laugh or two as well.  

For each card you'll need:
White card base for a 4 inch square card (4 x 8 inches, scored at 4 inches on the long side)
4 inch square of black AC cardstock
3 1/2 inch square of patterned paper
1 1/2 x 1 3/4 rectangle of black AC cardstock
Scrap white for sentiment
TP kit (dies, foam and acetate) from Queen & Co. 
Seed beads or other filler for the shaker
3 x 6 inch white textured AC cardstock

Die cutting machine (Big Kick by Sizzix)
Adhesive of choice (Lineco Glue and Scor Tape)
pop up dots
Anti static buddy
ink pad (black)
Stamp positioner
Paper trimmer 
Scissors (optional)

Using the dies, cut the elements you need.  All of the dies were used for this project -- the large plain cut became the back of the shaker.  It fits perfectly and can also be used to cut the acetate as well.  

Ink edges of the die cuts if desired.  That wasn't done for this trio of cards.  Assemble the base of the shaker.  Assemble the top of the shaker.  Rub the anti-static buddy on the underside of the acetate.  Fill the base of the shaker as desired.  Remove the top paper to expose the adhesive and apply the shaker top to the base.  Press firmly to get a good seal.  Set aside.

Layer the pieces of cardstock and patterned paper as shown in the image above and secure with your preferred adhesive.  Apply the shaker using some strong double sticky tape.  

If you haven't already, stamp your sentiment -- there are several to choose from in the kit and each one brings a smile.  Choose the one that best suits yours.  Adhere as desired.

This is a quick make and easy to get a few done in just a little bit of time if the shakers are pre assembled.

Day 2 -- Tag 2

After a recent scrolling time through Pinterest, I found a few tags that caught my eye.  I decided it would be fun to try at least one of the ideas I liked the most.

I found a simple tag shape in the basic shapes library and made a couple of changes to the design.  I found a flower image that looked like something you might get using a die in the Cutters Market files found through the SCAL software.  I sized for a small tag.  You could use the foil quill or a pen to draw the sentiment on the tag, however, I chose to use a stamp.  After cutting, stamp the sentiment.  Ink the edges of the tag shape if desired.

I chose to cut the flower and leaves out of white cardstock and add color using Tombow Markers.  

Grab a plastic sleeve and your Fuse Tool.  After the tool has warmed up, seal 3 sides of the plastic sleeve with the tag inserted between the two layers.  Trim the three side.  Add your sprinkles.  Seal the top edge of the sleeve.  Trim.  Attach a loop of floss, thread or ribbon with a staple.  Secure the flower and leaves using double sided tape to adhere.  

Using the same method as described above, I created a second tag using different embellishments.  The flower and leaves svg is from Dreaming Tree (3dsvg.com).  I resized it at 50% to work on the smaller tag size.

Graduation Explosion Box - Simply Crafty SVGs

 

Graduation dates are looming and even a few have passed.  We've been a little busy this year... and next year, we'll see a few more.

For this box, I used the Graduation Explosion Box from Simply Crafty SVGs.  The original design is easy to cut and put together.  I wanted a little more for this box and after consulting with Sandy, we decided the easiest way to create a second layer of flaps in SCAL 5 Pro was to use the Inset Shadow Layer option.  It worked well.  I added a cut in the center of the panel to allow the use of the gift card pop up  which would be the internal focal point when the box was opened.  

I used Blender & Pepakura to "build" a shaker box in place of the mortar board piece in the SVG file.  The same dimensions were used as the piece in the file.  Because I left the box as one piece, it did require use of a 11 x 17in cardstock.  You could create the basic box using 2 pieces of cardstock if desired.  The "frame" and transparency were also cut.  Adhere those to the box top BEFORE closing the box sides.  Using a fun font, the CONGRATS layered image was made and centered in the box.  All pieces for this project were cut using SCAL 5 Pro and the Skycut C24.  





This box was created in our grandson's school colors.  Blue and yellow gold -- we even found some DMC floss that was very close to yellow cardstock we used for the caps and frames for the pictures.  The tassel was easy to make following Sandy's instructions in her assembly video. 

Dies from Queen and Co were used for the caps used in the shaker box.  Additional sprinkles and more were from several different shops.  And the stamped hands and caps were from Simon Says Stamps.

shaking it up

I really do enjoy making shaker cards.  This kit from Queen & Co was perfect earlier this year when the pandemic was still "new" and everyone was trying to carve out their new normal. It still is - especially when you have a day that's not going quite as you would have hoped.  

I don't know about you, but there have been a few days recently that have been far from perfect or even close!  I do hope the recipient of this card will be smiling when the card is pulled from the envelope.  

All the papers are from AC cardstock and a Recollections stack of patterned paper.  I decided that setting the papers up in perfect alignment wasn't going to work... so each of the layers is slightly off kilter.  I think it works perfectly.  The sentiment was also included in the kit.  I used some sprinkles from another kit to fill the shaker.

It's birthday time again...

Birthdays!  I got myself in a bit of a bind earlier and ran out of my stash of birthday cards earlier than anticipated!  I'm thinking that's a good thing in the realm of papercrafting.  More opportunities to play, right?

Well, if that's the case, it's been fun!  Playing with some new dies (Queen & Co). Shaker cards are always a hit!  

The Sweet Shoppe kit has been so much fun to create with.  The kit comes complete with everything you need to complete several cards... well, maybe all but the card base, but that's not a huge issue since most of us keep lots of cardstock in our stash.  The kit also has lots of patterned paper, the foam shapes and of course dies.  You'll never be at a loss when it comes  to personalizing colors and there are stamps included in each full kit that will serve nearly every occasion.  

This cute shaker is for a young gal back in Oklahoma.  I'm happy to support her "birthday card party" this year.
